There I was this morning, fixing drinks like a madman, and in walks one of my regular college students. Nothing was out of the ordinary...he grabbed a chair to wait till I could fix his order. We were having a great conversation...nothing of any real importance...just small talk...but it was an answer to one of my questions that froze me in my tracks.
"How's the world treating ______ (and I called him by name) today?"
Now I'm expecting something like:
"Pretty fair."
"Just got out of a test."
"Headed to Wal-Mart and I need some caffeine."
Or maybe even a "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
Not this time.
This young man, with a smile on his face and without any hesitation replied, "Better than I deserve."
Oh my goodness! I was so not prepared for that. The look of shock must have been so great on my face that the young man repeated himself thinking that I didn't hear him the first time. Oh...my...goodness! I had to immediately do a little soul-searching myself.
"Father, thank you for that still, small voice...and eye-opening experiences...amen"
How about you..."How's the world treating you today?"...Think about it...

the "world" doesnt always treat me well... but the treatment i get from my Heavenly Father IS surely more than i deserve, especially when i try to please the world instead of Him.
